What We Are Reading
.
September, the featured book is the last collection of John Updike’s short stories,
completed shortly before he died. In reacting to My Father’s Tears and Other Stories, the reviewer for
the Washington Post states, “I have rarely encountered fiction that so genially recounts the frailties of
old age.” Our discussion promises to produce both belly laughs and rueful recognition. There are 25
copies in the county libraries, and it’s also available in paperback from Amazon and at bookstores.
Tentative meeting date: Tuesday, September 14. Location to be announced.
